Three very different
sources of the Double Trouble masters have been released
over the years. A very basic mix with dry vocals intact can
be found on "Celluloid Rock" volume 2. Unfortunately noise,
ambience and high-end has been removed so this is of little
use to verify the confirmed noise problem on this session.
The harmony vocal overdub of Could I Fall in
Love?
was poorly recorded in the first place without a doubt, but
to drown that channel in a canyon of digital echo and do
final processing "under water", as they did on "Double
Features", only makes things worse. There once was reason to
complain over the originally released RCA 2-track recordings
because of the high noise level, lack of high-end, tube
artifacts and the slightly overdone compression, especially
on the low frequencies. All of these flaws are subjectively
acceptable compared to BMG's synthetical vocals. (RCA's
It Won't Be
Long
may be an exception where the compressed bass simply is
unbearable.) |
|
|
Long
Legged Girl was remixed for the 1970 "Almost in Love"
album. The remixed version has less echo and compression,
but the mix/balance isn't very good with vocals being to
much to the left. However the sound quality and dynamic
range was better than the original release. The drum intro
was cut on Double Features and "Celluloid Rock" so it
probably is missing on the 4-track tapes. |
